Setting: The world Jane is from is a lot like ours, except science is selectively advanced, there are superheroes, secret (or at least mostly secret) sketchy government agencies, and there are different worlds.

[ EARTH ]
For the general population there's not much different in day to day life. Superheroes are the biggest difference, but even they don't have much impact on the average Joe besides being someone to admire on the news. The government agency SHIELD is fairly intertwined with these superheroes, and keeps an eye on the "super" activity in the world. This means when they realize Jane is investigating the arrival of Thor to Earth, they swoop in and take her equipment in order to keep things all hush-hush. While SHIELD doesn't do a lot of overt work, they meddle a lot behind the scenes, doing things like tricking Jane to go work in Norway to keep her safe from Loki's invasion of Earth. The superheroes they work with are The Avengers (see below). While most of science (especially for the every day person) is essentially the same as ours, a few exceptional people have advanced it. This has allowed for things like Arc Reactor technology, super soldier serum, and technology that can cause gravitational anomalies and create wormholes. Very few people are smart and visionary enough to create such things. Jane plays the role of one such visionary scientist, researching wormholes.

Really strange things happening are also a little more commonplace in this world, especially after things like Loki's invasion of New York with aliens. Superheroes are a package deal with this, in that they mostly exist because abnormal things have happened. Events like the Hulk rampaging in Harlem, the Destroyer (sent by Loki) leveling at least part of the town of Puente Antiguo, and the aforementioned invasion of New York have certainly alerted the general population that times are changing and there is some crazy shit out there. But the rarity of the events in the grand scheme of things makes it such that they're mostly a thing to read about and watch on the news.

[ Superheroes: The Avengers ]
Steve Rogers (Captain America): Steve is the first Avenger, created back in World War II to fight the Germans. He was injected with the super soldier serum and became, well, a super soldier. His plane crashed and he was believed dead, but was recently discovered to have been frozen in ice and subsequently thawed back to life.

Tony Stark (Iron Man): Tony is a self described genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist who started out as a weapons manufacturer and currently is investing his company in green energy. He uses his Iron Man suit to fight.

Bruce Banner (The Hulk): Bruce was investigating gamma radiation when an accident with the radiation turned him into the Hulk. Now he lives his life more or less on the run and turns into a giant green smashing machine whenever he loses control on his anger (as opposed to just being normally angry, which he always is, it's his secret).

Thor (Thor): Thor is an Asguardian prince who was banished to Earth when his dad grounded him. There he met (was hit by, twice) Jane while she researched wormholes, not coincidentally how he arrived to Earth. They worked together to return him to his power in exchange for Thor helping Jane discover what she wanted to know about wormholes and travel between worlds, and during that time (like, three days) they grew close and fell in love. He returned home to stop his brother's nefarious plot, but in the events of saving Asguard was unable to return to Earth. He did return to stop his brother (again) from destroying/subjugating Earth, but did not see or contact Jane for her own safety (as promised by SHIELD). He then returned to Asguard with Loki. Jane tried opening a wormhole to reach his home but when that didn't work (presumably for the same reasons he couldn't get to Earth) she continued searching for ways to find him, only trying to move on when he didn't contact her during his second time on Earth. Thor fights with the hammer Mjölnir and can call upon lightning and storms as well.

Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow): Natasha is a spy through and through. Raised as a Russian spy she left that position at some point and joined SHIELD and performs covert missions for them. She's a very skilled manipulator and hand to hand martial artist, though can use a variety of weapons as well.

Clint Barton (Hawkeye): Clint's particular skill lies in shooting. Not bullets, but arrows. He's quick, has a good eye, and makes the shots he makes.

[ OTHER WORLDS ]
Primarily this applies to Asguard, the home of Thor. These other worlds have some minor interaction with Earth, but usually they're rather separate. Sometimes things arrive on Earth that are alien of origin (such as the Tesseract and Thor), but for the most part the other worlds ignore Earth. Asguard watches over the nine realms and they were once worshiped by humans, back in the days of the Vikings and such. The other realms are Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, Jötunheim, Muspelheim, Alfheim, Nidavellir, and Niffleheim, but these worlds have little to no impact on Jane. She is aware of their existence and the existence of Yggdrasil, the World Tree that connects them all.

[ Asguardians other than Thor ]
Loki: Not a Good Guy, especially after he invaded New York with aliens and a lot of people died. Although Jane hasn't met Thor's brother, she knows him by reputation. He very publicly invaded New York, and she heard a little about him from Thor, primarily through the brief conversations Thor had with the friends that came to rescue him. From those conversations she's gathered his relationship with Thor, the fact that he isn't up to much good, and generally is a person to be upset with. After Thor left Earth to go stop his plans, she looked up information about the mythological Loki and knows that at least myth claims him to be a trickster, though she doesn't know how accurate that is given that it's myth.

Sif and the Warriors Three: These four are Thor's good friends and loyal companions who fight with him in the name of Asguard. Jane met them briefly when they went to Earth to bring Thor home to stop Loki's plans, and friends of Thor are friends of hers as far as she's concerned.

[ JANE'S ROLE ]
Although these superheroes and other worlds exist, Jane has only had contact with Thor (and Sif and the Warriors Three) and has not actually been to any other worlds, though not for lack of trying. She is one such person on the leading edge of technology, primarily focused on wormholes, and even attempted to open a wormhole to Asguard herself (it is assumed that it failed because the Bifrost was broken). And while she hasn't interacted with any of the Avengers other than Thor, she knows of Tony and Bruce due to their scientific roles, and has been seen to use some Stark tech and most likely has read Bruce's research, and knows of Steve by reputation and name. She also knows of SHIELD and their meddlesome ways due to their interference in her work on at least two occasions. Thor talked to her about other worlds

Personality: At first glance, no matter where she is or who she is with, Jane is a scientist. She lives for her research and can never resist getting sucked in by it. But she's hardly so one dimensional, it's simply that this is a constant theme in her life that affects and is affected by the rest of who she is. Jane is a research scientist, an astrophysicist with three degrees nonetheless, and her subject (theoretical physics such as wormholes, gravitational anomalies, and the like) requires an extensive amount of effort invested in it. She has to dedicate a lot of time and energy to make even a little progress in a field as complex and theoretical as that, and she's willing to put in that effort. Not only effort, but intelligence. A very strong understanding of math and extremely complex physics theories (things that can't even be demonstrated) is necessary to do the sort of research she does. That understanding has to be complete enough to extend it beyond where it is now since that's what research does: progresses things.

She has another trait necessary for such progress: seizing the opportunity. Her research requires moving quickly, even dangerously, in order to get results and she is willing to do it. This is a theme in her life though, the capacity to leap without looking. It's part curiosity, part naivety, and part impulse, but the result is that she doesn't agonize or analyze her actions and words, for better or for worse. It doesn't mean that she's not capable of taking time to plan things out, but it's far from her strong suit and takes calculated thought and effort to do such a thing. Most of the time she simply opens her mouth and her first thoughts and reactions tumble out. Similarly, she'll take the opportunities that are presented to her without thinking through the risks and consequences all the way. Given enough time her brain will catch up with her mouth and she'll slow done from the initial rush of responses, but she can definitely move on to the next thing before this can happen. If things go wrong she's not exactly surprised since this isn't a new thing in her life, and she accepts that she'll deal with the consequences of such things, though her optimism and naivety temper that to be more positive than reality can be.

That sunshiney outlook helps balance out the sometimes awkward and even abrasive reactions she can give as a result of speaking without thinking. It reflects the fact that she usually doesn't have any truly bad intentions behind her words, that she's actually warm and defaults to thinking well of people unless they give her a reason not to. Jane certainly cares about her friends and her loved ones, even if she gets wrapped up in her research sometimes. She's not shy with a smile and laugh and much prefers them to serious frowns, even though she knows there's a time and place for that.

Even though she has that wonderful side to her, Jane is certainly capable of having a temper. It's more of an impulse than a planned course of action, but when people upset her she doesn't hide it and it can be borderline explosive. It's not difficult to derail her and in turn deflate her anger, or provide her an explanation to abate it, but the more longstanding her grievance is the less likely she is to let it go. In these cases it takes the word of someone she trusts to put her anger aside and change her mind; there's not much in terms of words that can be used to sway her when there's a grudge, but actions work much better and can change her opinions since she can't discount them as lies.

A lot of this stems from the fact that Jane is, at heart, a fairly simple person. She's not hard to understand and doesn't attempt to hide that at all. And since she doesn't have any deceptions, either internal or external, she has a tendency to believe that of other people, which adds to her naivety. Even if she knows that other people simply aren't as simple and honest as she is, it's incredibly hard to internalize so she's really trusting of people. To this extent she's really gullible, but it also means that she's quite open minded about things. Even when Thor is talking about what practically amounts to fantasy, she just shakes her head and hopes he isn't crazy. But because she's so bad at deceiving people it can lead to some awkward moments where she really just can't pretend for the sake of someone else. In fact, Jane is pretty much an open book for the reading, even when she's trying not to be. But she's used to this side of herself and has learned how to simply live with it and recognize when she's being awkward and simply apologize for it.

It might seem that Jane hasn't really had to go through much hardship, but she's had her fair share of that too. Not only is she studying highly theoretical physics, but she's also a woman in that field. While things have improved for women in the sciences, there's an underlying feeling of "not being in the club" that she's had to deal with, and that can be discouraging after a long time. On top of that, she's done all of her work from scratch, even making her own equipment, which isn't an easy task. But through all this she was too stubborn (which is really an even split of stubbornness and optimism) to give up and stop, even when SHEILD took all of her stuff away. Jane simply can't give up so easily, she never loses sight of "what could be," the goal, the light at the end of the tunnel, and as long as she has that she'll keep on going. Part of the reason she doesn't give up is also because she can take care of herself. Even when Darcy is at her most annoying, Jane knows what to do in order to save her sanity, which is important since her goal is a very long term one. One she might not ever reach, in fact. She knows herself, is sure of herself, and knows how to take care of herself. These things are critical to the fact that she can't give up.

As for being on the turtle, Jane is going to initially be pretty excited. This is it! This is what she's been looking for! It's another universe and she has, herself, left her universe and gone to a different one! So she's going to be incredibly excited about the science of being in a different universe and researching how she got here and understanding how it all happened. It won't seem strange to her at all that this is possible, and she'll skip straight over the "wait what a turtle" and simply go "it's a turtle, this is cool, where are the wormholes?" Having people from her world, or at least close approximations of her world, will help her settle since that will help ground her "oh my god science" balloon a little.

Appearance: Here and here

Abilities: While Jane doesn't have any super human abilities, she does have superior intellect. She's an astrophysicist with three doctoral degrees, at least one of them being in particle physics. Along with her physics knowledge she has demonstrated above average engineering knowledge, having built most of her equipment. This also demonstrates strong problem solving capabilities.

Inventory: Her clothing and this device which isn't explicitly identified, but appears to be measuring in gal which is used primarily in gravimetry, so it should be measuring gravity fields.

Suite: Metal sector is definitely the place for her. (Relatively) more advanced science and eccentric thinkers! Jane will fit in well there. Any number of floors will suit her, since she's used to having pretty close quarters and any extra room will simply go towards science.

In-Character Samples:
Third Person: This day was going far from what she had expected it would be when she had woken up in the morning. Her original plan was going to go on a date and forget about Thor, but that plan was... completely irrelevant at this point. Not only had Darcy shown up with readings which lead them to an honest to god stable gravitational anomaly but then she had gotten pulled through a doorway to a different world. She had been in London one second, and in a... bathtub in the middle of some strange palace the next. The experience, as a whole, was quite dizzying. But this was it, this was the proof she needed for her research! Never mind that she was still in the other world, if she had gotten here she could get back. And once that happened she could publish research that would really show she wasn't crazy. At least, not crazy in that way. And she could even use it to open doors to other worlds, she could-

No. Jane had already made up her mind. No more Asguard, no more Thor. He had been on Earth, in New York no less, and hadn't even given her a call. Not that he knew how to use a phone. But that wasn't a good enough excuse, he could have flown to visit her, or stuck around, or asked someone to help contact her. That was over, which was why she had been on that date in the first place. No Asguard, no Thor. She would simply do her research, get home, and publish her findings. That was it, no more moping, no more searching. It was time to focus on what exciting prospects lay before her, not behind.

Network: [ There's a petite woman looking at the camera slightly unsure, because this is weird. She thought changing the ring tone on her cell phone was confusing. Not that she'd actually really tried, and at least she had been given a tutorial on this machine. But she launches right into science and gains surety and excitement as she talks. ]

The, uh, local people said I should post my questions on here. I'm looking for information regarding physical properties of this world. Obviously the gravity is at least highly similar to that on Earth, but [ she holds up a device that's not got a whole lot going on ] I need to do some minor calibrations to this in order to properly catch anomalies. And if I can properly study the anomalies then I can probably duplicate the anomalies in reverse to get back home.

[ Jane is really excited at this point. She takes a moment to catch herself and calm down with a tiny huff of laughter. She's well aware of how odd her excitement can be to strangers. ]

I'm Jane Foster, by the way. I study gravitational anomalies and wormholes and the like. Is there a university here somewhere? It would be nice to have a place to do research while I'm here.

[ Pause. Is this like a phone call or video question board or something? What should she say next? Jane gives a tiny shrug. ]

Uh, thank you for your help?
